Buy engagement ring and wedding ring at the same time!

Buying, or at least choosing, engagement rings and wedding rings at the same time is always a good idea. Then you can be sure that your rings fit well together, which is important. Otherwise you might have to regret your choice. There are several things to consider in order for the rings to fit perfectly: The colour, the width of the two rings together, and that the rings are the same height.

Left ring finger – a vein directly to the heart

Traditional belief established that a vein ran directly from the fourth finger of the left hand to the heart. This theory has been cited in western cultures as one of the reasons the engagement ring and/or wedding ring was placed on the fourth finger, or “ring finger” of the left hand. Wearing the ring on the right-hand ring finger originates from the fact that loyalty promises were sealed with the right hand. In many countries, the ring / rings are worn on the right hand, for example in Norway, Denmark and Germany; it is also common among same-sex couples.

Traditionally both the man and the woman wear an engagement ring, and the woman then also gets a wedding ring. Today, it is increasingly common for both to wear two rings after the wedding. Maybe because the weddings tend to be a little more lavish, and it is awesome to have matching wedding rings, it creates a special feeling of affinity. The days when the man was supposed to keep the engagement ring alone after the wedding are gone. Nowadays wedding rings are for both her and him.

Engagement ring and wedding ring worn together

As you wear the engagement ring and the wedding ring on the same finger it’s important that they fit well together. When you stack multiple rings, they fit as one wide ring, so you will need to account for a larger size. Aesthetically it’s simply a matter of taste, but it is very important that the rings fit to each other to avoid unnecessary attrition and to make sure that they stay beautiful for many years.

Height and width

The height and width of the engagement rings are always worth a little extra attention. Its not fun to discover that you should have chosen a narrower engagement ring when you later want to stack it with a wedding ring. It is also always much nicer if both rings have the same height and are turns into a single piece of jewellery.

If you have decided to marry you can choose the wedding ring first, even if you plan to buy it later on, and adjust the choice of engagement ring accordingly. Alternatively, in some cases one can redo the engagement rings later, but, if it can be done, depends entirely on the material and model. Gold rings can be melted, but many other materials are difficult, if not impossible to adapt and remake.
